A new survey found that several Colorado tech jobs are currently in demand.

The survey found that Web site and database developers, network engineers and help desk support personnel are the most in-demand technical jobs throughout the state. Consultnet, a staffing agency based in Salt Lake City, put together the survey based on analysis of its own data and 1,811 postings on online job boards for positions with employers on Colorado's Front Range.

When it comes to skills, front-end Web site development in .net, java and flex programming languages is the most sought-after skill in job postings, followed by infrastructure and network engineering, Web-based software development, database development and administration and help desk support staff.

The top employment areas for those seeking tech jobs were: social media; cable or satellite television and wireless telecommunications; renewable energy;, healthcare; remotely hosted computer networks, or cloud computing; and government contracting.

Consultnet also assembles rankings for other areas in other states where the company had offices, including California, Texas and Utah, as well as nationally. American industries hiring the most tech workers included: health services; software development; energy; oil and gas; and telecommunications.

Throughout the country, most tech job postings were looking for workers skilled in .net, java and C+ programming; linux and unix networks; project management; business analysis; and instructional design for Web-based teaching and job training.

The tech industry is particularly important to Colorado's economy. According to TechAmerica's 12th annual Cyberstates report, Colorado's high-tech industry added 2,400 jobs during 2007, bringing the industry to 159,600 during that year.

The tech industry has the third biggest concentration in Colorado's overall workforce for the third consecutive year. The average tech worker in the state earned $89,800 per year, or 97 percent more than the average private sector wage, during 2007.
