POSITION SUMMARY
The incumbent will support a large distributed enterprise class Unix and Linux infrastructure in a 24x7 high availability production environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the day-to-day needs of services are met by:
• Responding to requests in a timely manner
• Working with other technology groups in the implementation and support of Unix and Linux technologies
• Ensuring that Unix and Linux servers are being deployed as per standards
• Ensure availability targets are met for Unix and Linux servers
• Responsible for support and administration of production Unix server infrastructure
• Participate in after hours support on weekly rotational basis
• Initiate and manage vendor support escalations
• Provide support on Veritas GCO and VCS based clustered HPUX servers
• Server crash recovery to both local and remote servers within RTO and RPO guidelines
• Performance tuning evaluation and tuning of Unix servers including O/S kernel tuning
Problem determination and root cause analysis of Unix infrastructure issues in datacenters such as:
• Slow data throughput for replication
• I/O bottlenecks in storage area networks
• HBA issues, persistent binding, switch zoning
• Work with other support teams (networking, databases, SAN, data center mgmt) and vendors in arriving at server infrastructure solutions
• Capacity planning of production backup infrastructure
• Develop data protection and recovery solutions, participate in DPI (data protection initiative) activities providing useful insight and direction as per your experience and background
• Create enterprise change records, execute software upgrades, install patches, install and configure server software as required
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 3 years Unix Systems Adminsitration experience in a large Unix production environment
• Experience with HPUX 11i including relevant certification
• Experience with Veritas Storage Foundations for Oracle including relevant certifications
• Skilled in HPUX server tuning, backup and recovery
• Knowledge of high availability methodology
• Results orientated can deliver in pressurized situations
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
• Proven skills on HPUX 11.23/11.31 V2/V3
• Proven skills with Veritas Storage Foundations for Oracle
• Proven skills with Veritas Volume Replication
• Proven skills in a mission critical high availability environment
• Self starter capable of working independently
• Experience with blade technology including HP, Sun and IBM
• Experience with Solaris and Sun server architecture
• Experience with Oracle database
• Experience with Linux (Redhat/Suse)
